BB5: Post Draft FA Wish List

The 2024 NFL Draft is complete, and many fans think the Bills didn't do enough to address the wide receiver position. I do not fall into that category. I am good with the current receiver group, so Odell Beckham will not be on my list of potential free agents, which I hope Brandon Beane explores this summer. Beane has made FA signings long after the initial signing frenzy and, in the case of last year, after the NFL draft (Leonard Floyd and Poona Ford). In this edition of BB5, I cover a list of available free agents I wouldn’t mind seeing in training camp, as their presence could significantly bolster the Bills' roster for the upcoming 2024 season.

  1. Yannick Ngakoue EDGE - Ngakoue could be a signing similar to Leonard Floyd of 2023. The market doesn’t materialize, so you sign a one-year deal on a top defense and hope for a payday in 2025 free agency. Ngakoue is only 29 years old and has 69 career sacks in 123 games. The Bills would be able to limit his snaps similar to how Floyd was used and exploit his best skill set.

  2. Jamal Adams S - I am not a Jamal Adams fan as a safety, but Jamal Adams in a hybrid LB role would be a very intriguing player in the Bills defense. I don’t think Adams will be effective at the safety position in the NFL, but he does have the skills to play in the NFL as a situational playmaker.

  3. Connor Williams C - Williams, 27, tore his ACL late last season, which has left teams hesitant this offseason. This would be a prove-it-deal insurance policy for the Bills. At this point, McGovern is set to play center unless Van-Pan Granger is a better choice. Consider Williams as a backup option if still available this summer.

For the wide receiver or bust crowd, I don’t think the Bills need to add here, but these are the wide receivers that I think would be good fits at the right price if they are still available before training camp.

  4. Hunter Renfrow - Renfroe signed a lucrative 2nd contract with the Raiders and then fell out of favor and was cut. A veteran-minimum deal to reset his market in a competitive WR room could be a good bet for him. Renfroe could be a new version of what Cole Beasley was for Josh Allen.

  5. DJ Chark or Corey Davis - The Bills have been going with big-bodied WRs, drafting Keon Coleman, and signing Mack Hollins and Quintez Cephus. Chark is 6’3” and will be 28 at the beginning of the season. Davis is another player a year out of football (Cephus) who is 6’3” and will be 29 when the season starts.
